News of overheating batteries and exploding smartphones prompted Samsung to issue a voluntary recall for its Galaxy Note 7 a few weeks ago. In the weeks that have followed, the company also created a downloadable update that limits battery life but prevents explosion. The company was waiting on an investigation before issuing an official recall. On September 15th that recall was announced – and all Note 7 owners are strongly encouraged to return their devices for a replacement.

So far there have been 92 cases of overheated batteries reported. Of these, 26 resulted in burns and 55 resulted in some sort of property damage. As with any defective product, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to cover damages caused by this issue. If you have been injured by a defective smartphone, you may be entitled to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. The best way to determine if you have cause to file suit is through a one-on-one consultation with Bakersfield personal injury attorney Mickey Fine.
