General Motors (GM) has initiated another recall associated with defective ignition lock systems that can cause safety issues in hot weather conditions. The recall covers 92,221 2011-2012 model trucks and SUVs as well as some 2007-2014 models that were already repaired using defective parts.
Vehicles included in this recall are:
- Chevrolet Silverado light-duty and heavy-duty pickups
- Chevrolet Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban SUVs
- GMC Sierra light-duty and heavy-duty pickups
- GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs
- Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT SUVs
According to GM, the ignition lock actuators are too wide, creating problems when trying to turn the key if it’s hot inside the vehicle. Currently, there have been no car accidents associated with these defects reported to the NHTSA. This problem appears to be different than the ignition switch defect that resulted in a recall of 2.6 million vehicles last year. That defect has been linked to at least 42 fatalities and 58 injuries.
