GM Defective Ignition Switch Deaths Rise to 77

Bakersfield Car Accident Lawyer - GM Ignition Switch Defect Attorney - Mickey FineThe most recent reports indicate that 77 fatalities have now been linked to ignition switch defects associated with General Motors (GM) vehicles. In addition, 141 people suffered injuries in car accidents caused by these defective autos.

GM established a fund to compensate victims after millions of their defective vehicles were recalled in 2014. There were 4,342 claims filed by the January 31, 2015 deadline. GM officials are still reviewing more than 1,200 of these claims. According to a spokesperson, more than 50% of the claims lacked the proper documentation to qualify for compensation.

It is likely that in the coming months, additional deaths will be linked to these ignition switch defects, which caused vehicles to lose power while driving at full speed. Information revealed that GM was aware of the issue for more than a decade, but failed to take the necessary action to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers in their vehicles.
